Firefly is Whedon s next huge hit television series. The actress must have made a lasting impression, because this one episode led to her being a celebrity. Summer Glau was very good at handling the complex role of River Tam. Tam, as the character in the film known, was subjected to research conducted by the government to help her become a successful assassin. Tam's emotional control was taken away in direct consequence. Glau got the chance to showcase not just her acting talents, but her combat skills in Firefly. It was also evident that learning to be an assassin enabled Glau to fully use her athletic ability. Summer Glau was classically-trained as a ballerina. The talent she displays in her dancing also include the study of flamenco and tango but it was a fractured toe that ended her dancing career. Firefly was a one-off show but was a huge hit. This was so intense that Whedon returned to the show a couple of years later. Summer Glau, however, continued to receive quality work. She has appeared on television programs like Cold Case or CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.
