She's worked at many of the top outlets around the world. She covered football, basketball and Grand Slam Tennis for The Washington Post. Nichols was hired by ESPN at the beginning of 2004. She spent 9 years at the network, earning the network two Emmy Awards. She also appeared on the most popular programs on ESPN like SportsCenter or NFL Countdown. Additionally, she worked as a correspondent for Monday Night Football on the network. The next step was to CNN after which she joined Turner Sports. Nichols worked for TNT as a reporter who reported on NBA games that included regular season games, playoffs as well as All Star television broadcasts. She also reported for TBS broadcasting golf and baseball broadcasts, and Final Four broadcasts on CBS. This is the first occasion in the award's 42 year tradition that a woman has been nominated amongst the more than 200 nominations.
